Hi! I have a chance to update my MB+CPU+RAM and have some questions. My new CPU and RAM will be: AMD Ryzen R5-5600X G.Skill Ripjaws V DDR4-3600MHz CL16-16-16-36 I'm deciding between these two motherboards: Asus ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING Gigabyte B550 Aorus PRO V2 My questions: Would I get any benefits pairing Gigabyte board with Gigabyte RTX 3080? For example software compatibility or better fan tuning something like that. Is Gigabyte sound worse than ASUS one? I loved the B450-F sound. Anyone with one of these boards: How fast do they POST? Which of these boards would you pick and why?
You'll likely see minimal variation between the B550-f and the ASUS Strix 1660 Ti. To match the look and maintain a consistent color scheme, I'd recommend the Gigabyte option.
The feature set is pretty similar between the two. The Aorus Pro has a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Header while the B550-F does not. I prefer the layout and configuration of the PCIe and M.2 slots on the Asus board. On the Asus board, you can have a GPU and 2X M.2 devices installed, and still you have access to either [one 4X PCIe slot and 4 SATA devices] or [four 1X PCIe slots and 4 SATA devices]. On the Gigabyte board, when you have a GPU and 2X M.2 devices installed, you have access to either [6 SATA devices and one 1X PCIe slot] or [4 SATA devices, one 2X PCIe slot, and one 1X PCIe slot]. There is another 1X PCIe slot that has a dedicated PCIe lane, but it gets covered by a GPU (which is stupid IMO) so I'm not counting it. I'd go with the Asus board, unless I needed a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Header, then I might go with a different board entirely.
It depends on the cost. It’s unlikely to fit a 5600X unless you can find a cheaper board like the b550-a pro at around 5800X for similar pricing.
I evaluated the R7 5800x but opted against it due to cooling concerns, cost, and wanting less strain on my 660W PSU. From a price standpoint, the 5800x costs 440€ while the 5600x is 300€. It’s unclear if the 5800x justifies the extra 140€ over the 5600x. My current cooler is a Hyper 212 RGB BE, which probably needs a more costly air cooler. I don’t like AIO units. The B550-A Pro isn’t available and lacks a solid sound option. The B550 Aorus Pro is around 170€, which I chose for its features and sound quality. It offers many USB ports, two NVMe slots with heatsinks – a nice design touch. There are positive reviews about ASUS as well. After further research, both seem to be of good quality.
I enjoy their ROG boards. I haven’t experienced much success with their latest midrange models, so I usually steer clear. Regarding Gigabyte, I’ve only used one of their products, and it left a strong negative impression.
