Apex? Unless you join ranked battles specifically, you can still play with random matches. Most people prefer that way; I tend to play PUBG in a realistic setting, but I enjoy its respawn system and fast-paced gameplay. CSGO also offers a 2-player BR mode that’s quite entertaining. Overall, the game is enjoyable, though competitive play (except for non-battle royale or standard matches) can be frustrating until you reach rank 20 and secure prime matchmaking. There are many such games at that level, and they’re great for practice. Once you get into prime matchmaking, competitive matches become really engaging and rewarding when you perform well, though the worst part is when you underperform—especially since the game feels like an excellent training tool for any FPS. If you’re good at CS, you can excel in other titles as well.

VRChat allows you to play in a real-life setting while still being a video game. It’s fun if you can mimic popular characters or make people laugh with your reactions.

Halo Reach is solid and worth trying on Steam for $10. The Microsoft version has issues and doesn’t support future map mods well. Since it’s now available, I’m surprised how much I enjoy it on PC compared to what I thought. I wasn’t particularly interested in Halo as a kid, but it’s great now.

Left 4 Dead 2 is a classic and affordable option—mostly around $5. It’s quite repetitive, but it’s rewarding if you focus on low to mid levels and master the vehicles. If you keep grinding, the enjoyment fades quickly.
