For the past year I've mostly stuck with MSFS2020 and am searching for something fresh to make use of the latest GPU improvements.
I enjoy this type of game, so I'm open to suggestions.
Both options are acceptable.

I would definitely pick Hogwarts Legacy instead of ELDEN RING if given the opportunity. Both are open-world action-RPG titles, but Elden Ring leans more toward a dark fantasy, reminiscent of Souls-like games. For fans of the DARK SOULS series, Elden Ring could be the better option. Otherwise, Hogwarts Legacy remains an excellent choice, offering a solid story and engaging gameplay. What sets them apart is the focus on storytelling versus exploration.

I don't believe our views will have much impact. What I've heard from friends is that the HP game offers very little replay value; once it's fully played through, they usually uninstall it.

Don't believe it. Both have positive ratings on Steam, but outside views seem limited.

I would certainly prefer Hogwarts Legacy to ELDEN RING if I had the opportunity to decide. Both are open-world action-RPG titles, but Elden Ring leans more toward a dark fantasy experience reminiscent of Souls-like games.

If you enjoy the DARK SOULS series, then Elden Ring could be the better option.
On the other hand, Hogwarts Legacy remains an excellent choice as well, offering a solid narrative at least. The main difference lies in whether you value story or exploration more.

Hogwarts Legacy tends to follow a more linear path, delivering a classic RPG feel with magical twists in combat. Its open world includes more direct side missions and guide-based progression before deeper gameplay, whereas Elden Ring offers a vast, largely unstructured environment focused on discovery.

While Elden Ring excels in environmental richness and diverse levels across expansive biomes, Hogwarts Legacy is more limited to its coastal and wooded Highlands. Still, the quests in Elden Ring are dynamic—players encounter NPCs and must navigate non-linear paths, often solving puzzles or facing challenges without a fixed route.

Elden Ring essentially captures the essence of Dark Souls but within an open-world framework, packed with varied bosses, dungeons, and expansive landscapes. Compared to Hogwarts Legacy, it delivers a stronger emphasis on sorcery as both offensive and defensive strategy, fitting its fantasy setting perfectly.

If you appreciate a compelling story, Hogwarts Legacy is the clear choice. But if you prefer fluid combat and a more expansive world, Elden Ring stands out as a superior experience.

Thank you for the helpful update. Throughout my RPG adventures, I've always preferred the magical over the melee aspects... thus I believe I'll start with Hogwarts Legacy, and maybe Elden Ring later.
I'm not very familiar with either series, so it should be exciting.

No worries. I believe both games are good to play.
Also, with your powerful GPU and PC, you shouldn't run into any surprises with VRAM for the RTX 4090. However, playing in 4K will still be quite taxing due to the game's engine.
Hogwarts Legacy consumes a lot of VRAM, along with high system RAM even on top-tier systems.

Thanks for the advice. I recently installed the card and spent the last couple of evenings configuring my software after wiping my drives to start over. Once the game is running, I'll share the performance details. The 4090 represents a significant advancement over the 3090, so I'm confident in the upgrade—yet curious about its performance with newer titles like this one.

Sure, the RTX 4090 is truly an impressive card. It's currently the top consumer gaming GPU available, ahead of the upcoming Ti version. The Ti model is already being developed by NVidia. For demanding graphics or poorly optimized games that consume a lot of system power, this GPU would be an excellent choice, especially when running at 4K resolution.

Yep... that's exactly what I use. The card is a real powerhouse... with the 10900k and 3090 my Port Royal score was 14,000... 11900k and 4090 it reached 25,000.
As mentioned... a big jump.
