I have a lot of catching up to do when it comes to pc games, I would like to be a developer of games one day and i need to have many games under my belt i need to steer away from just playing wow all day. With that being said Id like to know which franchises are worth it and which one you would get. for example given the chose of Far cry i would really like to get 3 first. I got skyrim as my first elder scrolls game as well. So dont just say get 1 because its number 1. Unless i would very much ruin the rest of the series. I have some specifics first. Borderlands 1 2 or now 0 (3) Dark souls or dark souls 2? Which dragon age? Note i want the experience to be fun, sometimes a game altho it may have been great when it first came out, can get boring for me quick if its very limited compared to games today. For example star craft 2 vs 1 I would get 2 because the story is secondary and more ppl play on the multiplayer for 2. and i guess the graphics. But graphics arent everything

I myself am planning on starting a new game of Morroblivion, you should too, great modding experience, which gives great computer knowledge, in fact there's a mod that allows good old fashion share the same screen coop that I still need to try, that is if you have friends.... http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/40325/? Not to mention with graphic mods out you could make the Oblivion environment look better than Skyrim. And as for learning new tricks about game development, there are so many mod-able games that you, yes YOU can make mods for, now that knowledge will only help you in the future, and allow you to have a good time.

Fallout offers a compelling collection of titles. I’d suggest starting with New Vegas, yet don’t overlook the original release since each delivers a unique experience (third-person RPG transitioning to top-down, turn-based). Fallout 3 stands out as my top pick, though some adjustments with mods might be necessary to avoid crashes. The "Tale of Two Wastelands" port is a valuable addition for fans, enabling movement between settings. If you enjoy strategy titles, Civilization series is worth exploring—consider Civ 5 and its expansions. Portal 2, Half-Life 1, CS:GO, and Left 4 Dead 2 are among my personal favorites from Valve. Garry’s Mod works well, but pairing it with Counter Strike: Source unlocks full access to various game types. The Batman games are solid, with Arkham Asylum being my top pick. I’d describe this as a combat-focused experience, though it has some innovative mechanics. GTA V’s reception has been mixed; San Andreas remains popular despite recent issues. The Xliveless patch can help remove glitches from GTA Online. Call of Duty 4 is a standout multiplayer title, with a solid single-player campaign. Third-person shooters like Just Cause 2 and its mod offer engaging gameplay. If you’re into open-world action, consider Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare or Black Ops 1/Advanced Warfare. Mafia II appeals to fans of classic gangster stories, offering a single-player experience. Metro 2033 delivers an immersive story and precise gunplay, while Mirror’s Edge stands out for its parkour and fluid movement. Bioshock 2 is a standout, but the first installment is essential for understanding the narrative. For racing fans, Burnout Paradise offers depth beyond mere speed, with varied challenges. Indie gems like Risk of Rain, Super Meat Boy, and The Binding of Isaac are worth checking out. Steamworld Dig and Trine 2 round out the list. Feel free to dive into these suggestions and enjoy the diverse options available!

Borderlands: I guess Borderlands 2 is the best of them. I personally got bored of it very fast, even though I completed the first game which is objectively worse, but was fun at the time. Souls games: If you're new to the series - Dark Souls 2. It's better polished and more competent as a game in general. My fav is still Demon's Souls on ps3 and imho DS1 has a better story and a more interesting world/bosses Dragon Age: Definitely - Dragon Age Origins. Get a game of the year edition on the next sale for $5 and you get like 60-80 hours of awesome content. Dragon Age 2 is crap, Inquisition is not out yet so don't want to speculate.

Metro 2033 is just landed from the recent games giveaway. I believe there are still some solid deals available, by the way. Appreciate the recommendations!

For Borderlands titles, Borderlands 2 is the top choice. The original console version is considered a poor port with less engaging characters and settings. Pre-Sequel offers a more decent experience compared to 2. Dragon Age 2 received mixed reactions from both fans and critics. Origins stands out as the superior option between the two. If you're tackling Dark Souls 1, expect significant adjustments to make it function well on PC.

It depends on your preferences. Dark Souls 2 offers a different style and challenge compared to other games.

I haven't played either Dark Souls title. The first one is considered legendary for its bad port, but from what I've heard, the second version was much better and received positive feedback.

No one has played Kingdoms of Amalur yet. You’ve reached a good point, but you’ve put in time building up your skills and getting really strong. It might be fun to try on PC and see what you can achieve.

Dark Souls was notoriously bad when it first launched, patches seemed to have fixed those problems though. They do still recommend using a controller over mouse and keyboard which I would have done anyway. I've also read that they are getting Games For Windows Live out of it this month. I bought the Prepare To Die edition for like $12 not knowing if I would enjoy it, but 95 hours later I can say it is one of the best games I've ever played. Play Dark Souls 1 before 2. Just remember go up to Undeadburg, not down to Blightown.
