You're considering Fallout: Tactics. I'd suggest beginning with New Vegas. It offers only a slight upgrade from Fallout 3, yet it provides some enhancements.

NV and 3 each have their strengths, but if you're aiming for a single top pick, go with NV. Secure the GOTY versions—it's worth it. NV offers superior weapon options like mods and varied ammunition. 3 remains impressive on its own.

Vegas was a standout for me. From my perspective, I invested a lot of time—over 450 hours or more—on it along with its add-ons.

I really like many things about New Vegas compared to 3. The repairing system is significantly better there. I also think the game is more easy to understand. Strongly recommend it.

I suggest beginning with Fallout 3. I found it much more engaging compared to NV. The narrative felt more immersive.

Fallout 3 stands out as the top choice. New Vegas feels okay.

I enjoyed the situation when I arrived, seeing a count of 10-9. While I liked Fallout: New Vegas—maybe because I played it first—I thought there was more to explore in Fallout 3. I actually chose Fallout 3 because there’s a mission where you discover an old woman’s violin and unlock a radio station that plays it for you. If you want endless activities, pick Fallout 3; otherwise, Fallout: New Vegas is still enjoyable. You’re unlikely to be disappointed as long as the game style matches your preferences.
