He mentioned that 5800x doesn’t fit the context. It’s as if adding rocket fuel to a Toyota Camry—better pick a 5600x or upgrade to 12700.

It could function, though I doubt PBO would activate much. This board is very basic, built for budget chips that don’t need strong power. It would struggle to support the 5800x stock, let alone with PBO. If you must have the 5800x, consider an MSI B550 tomahawk from Amazon Warehouse. You’re safe to try it—return or exchange if it doesn’t work. The B550 offers solid power delivery and good value even at its listed price. I’ve seen it on Amazon for as low as $90. Keep that in mind. A better experience would definitely follow.

Avoid using the 1600 cooler for a 5800X—it may cause throttling and could lead to crashes. This setup isn't built to handle such high temperatures.

You might want to consider a new mobile graphics card for your 5800X. It’s a budget option, but it’s still a good choice if you’re looking for performance improvements. The Tomahawk compatibility with the Ryzen 7 5800X isn’t guaranteed, so you may need a more powerful cooler for the 12700F. If you're unsure, upgrading the mobo and getting a 5800X seems like a safer bet compared to jumping into a high-end cooler right away.

If you're planning to upgrade your motherboard, choose Intel. This isn't complicated. You already have a budget-friendly motherboard and don’t need a high-end cooler. Picking the 5800X over the 5600X without a solid reason is unnecessary. Either stick with the 5600X and add a cooler, or move to a more powerful platform like the 12700 or B660. But even then, you might still want a better cooler, which could lead to overspending. Opting for the 12400 is a step down from the 5600X, which remains the most affordable option. The 5600X offers solid performance and should last you a long time with your current setup.

The tomahawk would fit with the 5800x, which is why I suggested it. I mentioned your present graphics card wouldn't work with the 5800x, but according to "Mr. Woof," you should follow the advice if you're replacing the motherboard as well.

You're referring to a situation where the item isn't functioning properly or is out of service. The Amazon warehouse handles returns, and sometimes products aren't even inspected. The B550 works well with the 5800X right out of the box without needing any BIOS updates.

Unfortunately, it's not a certainty, even now. I assist with many builds and have flashed NIB B550 boards using compatible BIOS just last week. It really depends on how long the boards were stored. The B550 Tomahawk supports flashback, making it a fast solution.

I'm based in the UK and this covers both new and older games. It includes Blender sculpting and general tasks like web browsing. If you're not updating your hardware, I suggest the 5600X. If you upgrade, Intel is a good choice. Personally, I've been saving for about a year and had enough money for a new graphics card, CPU, power supply, and other stuff. Everything else can be reused. Then you consider saving again for a 3060 Ti or higher. If you kept your B450 board with a 5600X, would it help you get the best performance from a 3060 Ti or 3070 whenever possible? (I'm using an RX Vega 56 GPU.)
