I’m planning to assemble a budget PC without a Ryzen. I’m torn between the Athlon 200GE and the A8 9600. The Athlon 200GE pairs well with an RX560 and offers higher FPS, but its integrated graphics are inferior to the A8 9600. The A8 9600 runs cooler (74°C vs 95°C for the Athlon 200GE), and I expect a decent cooler will help. I’ll likely overclock the CPU, so temperature differences shouldn’t be a big factor. Prices aren’t crucial since both are around $7 more new. The A8 9600 has fewer cores (4 vs 2), which could impact performance. Based on the specs, the A8 9600 seems more suitable for my needs.
The Athlon 200ge performs much better than the A8. It's essentially a Ryzen 1st generation VS FX from the last generation, offering about 15-20% more speed per core. The Athlon can reach an average of 3.8 to 4.0 GHz overclock, making it even faster than the A8.
steer clear of the A8, it’s not worth the risk. Skip it at all costs—this outdated design falls short. It doesn’t match the performance of a first-generation i7 with an LGA1366 socket. If you want something solid, consider the Athlon instead.
I believe dual-core processors are no longer ideal. I’d pick the A8 9600 if forced to choose, as it doesn’t require integrated graphics. (I also checked other replies—seems the 9600 runs very slowly, so maybe consider another model.)
Consider switching from A8 9600 to A10 9700. The A10 offers improved performance and features, making it a stronger option compared to the A8 9600. Whether to upgrade depends on your specific needs and budget.
