Hello everyone. I'm exchanging my slightly used nocompromisegaming PC for a new setup. Lol...I'm really into speed! What's the ideal choice for overclocking to 4.4 Mhz?

You can't push it beyond that. A 6700**K** is required, not just any number.
I truly wish those items aren't included in the cost—like a monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers, desk, printer, or chair.

Can't push the CPU beyond its limits on that motherboard. You'd need a 6700k to do so. For your query, 4.4 is a reasonable overclock. A cryorig H7 air cooler would manage it easily.

You'll encounter CPU core voltage challenges well before any temperature worries arise with Skylake. Going beyond 1.45v isn't just risky—it leads to stability problems and over-voltage issues. Running an i7 stable at 68°C can hit nearly 5ghz, but it poses dangers that go far beyond heat management.

You should consider overclocking the 6700k with a BLCK OC attempt, aiming for a 2 to 3% improvement.
The MoBo’s audio setup is quite basic (ALC 887); switching to any competitor model in that range would boost performance by two levels.
A reference card is known to limit speed—upgrade to an MSI Gaming X or Gigabyte G1 for better results.
Most coolers are inexpensive, so opting for a CLC model would be reasonable; however, the cost seems very high.
This approach speeds everything up significantly compared to last Sunday and saves $800.

BadActor :
Overclocking that CPU isn't possible on that motherboard without the 6700k. For your query, a 4.4 overclock is reasonable. A cryorig H7 air cooler would manage it easily.

It seems the Z170m-Plus supports BCLK overclocking in factory UEFI, and definitely in non-factory UEFIs.

A more suitable option would be to construct a superior PC at a lower cost.

Overclocking that CPU isn't possible on that motherboard without the 6700k. A modest overclock of 4.4 is achievable, and a cryorig H7 air cooler would work easily.

It seems the Z170m-Plus supports BCLK overclocking on factory UEFI, but not necessarily on non-factory UEFIs.
I'm uncertain which Z170 boards still support BCLK after Intel's microcode updates. Some can be reverted to older BIOS versions, while others can't. For those interested in locking processors, I suggest considering Asrocks Hyper series boards.
