Which component do you need more: the GPU or the motherboard?
Hi all So I am facing a weird issue. My old PC has a GTX 1070 paired with a i5 7600k on an MSI Z270. One fine day the machine gave up on me. Issue was no display post bios logo display. I checked all components but no joy. Recently, while troubleshooting, I noticed that the bios splash screen is being displayed in a low resolution and it just turns on into a black screen. Reformatted the pc thinking maybe windows is corrupted. Windows installation process completes without the native monitor resolution but again no display when the windows starts to boot. I unplugged my graphics card and reformatted again. Now the pc is working fine on cpu and motherboard graphics connection. Tried reflashing the bios but the flash mode doesn't start. So I am confused that is the GPU card dead or is something wrong with the motherboard. EZ debug LEDs do not show any error on the motherboard. Any suggestions?
It looks like the GTX 1070 is becoming less relevant with your CPU (i5-7600K) offering built-in graphics. Have you attempted to link your monitor through the motherboard using HDMI or DVI-D? If it powers on smoothly, it suggests a problem lies with your graphics card.
The PC operates smoothly with integrated graphics. It seemed unusual that the GPU output functions for the installation screen and BIOS splash but not during Windows boot.
