Hello, I noticed you're trying to improve your online game performance by switching from Wi-Fi to a wired connection. Since your router is far away and downstairs, you're experiencing weak Wi-Fi with only about 40 Mbps and high ping times. You're considering a 50-foot cable to the router. Regarding cables, CAT6 and CAT7 differ mainly in performance and distance limits, but the main factor is speed—not just the type. Higher MHz can help, but the key is using the right cable for your setup. Let me know if you need more details! Thanks, Landon

Cat 6 is the ideal choice. Cat5e will also handle your signal without any problems.

Cat5e supports speeds up to 2.5 Gbps, while Cat6 offers up to 10 Gbps over distances of about 30 to 50 meters. Cat6a is required for achieving 10 Gbps up to 100 meters. Therefore, even an affordable Cat5e connection will suffice for your needs.

I purchased Cat7 initially since I secured a good price on it then. The cable tends to be thicker with Cat7, making it suitable for your requirements. Cat6 should easily cover your needs.

Cat 7 isn't a common cable and might not be worth the cost. Cat 5e supports speeds up to 10 gigabits per second over 30 meters, with some extending further. Stick with Cat 6 or Cat 6a for better performance.
