Which B550 motherboard to buy?
I've focused on three choices: B550 Aorus Elite V2 at 116 euros, B550 MSI Gaming Plus at 120 euros, and B550 MSI Tomahawk at 150 euros. Locally I'm planning to use 5800x, which means VRM matters less. It's tough to overclock much since the stock version runs extremely hot. I don't really need the 2.5G Ethernet ports, but the Gaming Plus has ALC897 compared to ALC1200 on other boards, which makes me hesitate. Recently some people advised against GigaByte components, so I'm unsure. I'm not sure if the Tomahawk is worth the extra 30 euros, especially since I could buy it for 130 euros from Poland but face shipping issues. Which one should I choose? Are there better options at this price?
I don’t know what else exists or how the market price looks. My setup uses the Tomahawk for my 5600x build and it’s worked perfectly. BIOS updates were straightforward; the VRM quality was solid, and boosting RAM to 3600 MHz was a simple click in BIOS settings. It’s a decent motherboard, though the cost depends on you. I’ve been a bit conservative with previous upgrades before this one, feeling restricted by the path ahead. Now it’s the final AM4 CPU line, so your upgrade options are limited. It probably won’t be a big deal for you since eventually you’ll need a new motherboard regardless.
