Certain individuals believe stereo offers superior audio fidelity, while others argue that surround sound is more effective for spatial awareness, even if it means accepting a reduction in sound quality. I primarily play first-person shooter games such as Battlefield, Call of Duty, and Overwatch, but I’m struggling to determine which system to utilize. I possess Beyer Dynamic DT 990 Pro headphones and a SoundBlaster Omni 5.1 external sound card.
Regarding gaming audio, a surround system with 5.1 channels or more undeniably presents a superior option – provided you effectively utilize sound and spatial awareness within your gameplay AND if it’s something that genuinely interests you.
Personally, I find this largely irrelevant; I don't engage in competitive play, and my hearing has diminished to the point where it doesn’t significantly impact my experience, so a standard stereo configuration is perfectly adequate for me. My current 2.1 system with a subwoofer satisfies my needs.
