What capacity SSD do you need? Ideally, all applications should run on an SSD paired with your operating system for easier setup and management. With a 128GB drive or less, you might want to use your HDD since that size is quite limited.

You could simply use Malwarebytes once weekly to confirm your safety. After several weeks without detection, you'll gain more assurance in staying malware-free. For continuous defense and if you're willing to invest, a lifetime Malwarebytes Premium license is worth considering. I personally don’t require protection since infection chances are minimal (just imagine sneaking up on me), yet I still opt for Premium for its reliability. The scanning speed is impressive—almost written in assembly language—and it runs smoothly without being intrusive. It also benefits from one of the top databases. If you prefer free options, Avira is a solid choice; it offers robust free definitions, surpassing AVG and Avast in many areas. I no longer suggest Avast due to its recent issues. It was powerful once (with the blue circle icon), but now it’s overly intrusive—so annoying you’d want to remove it entirely. It also generates frequent false alarms.

I use AVG Internet Security and I'm really satisfied with it.

For free antivirus protection, choose Avira or Bitdefender. Bitdefender is lighter on resources but offers fewer customization options. If you need a premium solution, consider Bitdefender or Kaspersky. Kaspersky stands out due to their experienced team identifying many security flaws. You might also explore AVTEST, an independent service that rates antivirus programs (Bitdefender and Kaspersky are the leading choices).

Currently I rely on MSE mainly since the top antivirus is preventing unsafe sites and unrecognized programs (like game updates).

The place I work at has all our technicians recommending Avast. They say its real-world detection rate is quite strong—better than most, maybe even all of the alternatives. Avira does well too. As mentioned elsewhere in this discussion, the top AV protection comes from choosing what you like best.
