I’ve noticed those CPUs are quite similar in price, with the Ryzen 7 at 242 euros and the Ryzen 9 at 250 euros. I was looking into their key differences and one of the main reasons to choose the Ryzen 7 is its larger L3 cache (96MB compared to 64MB). It also provides 6.67 MB/core more in L3 per core and supports ECC memory. On the other hand, the Ryzen 9 is stronger in performance and offers more threads/core. Thinking about my needs—gaming and productivity—and planning to upgrade to a 1440p wide screen soon, I’m weighing both options. Since both are priced the same, I’m leaning toward the Ryzen 9 but still want to be sure. There might be something I’m missing, so I’ll consider carefully before deciding.
PS: My motherboard has a B450 chipset and AM4 slot, which means the best upgrade would be a Ryzen 5000 series, as the 7000 line isn’t compatible. Thanks!

For most other purposes with some gaming, the 5900x is appropriate.

Keep in mind that the 5700X3D is essentially a gaming CPU. Unlike the newer 9000X3D models, the 5000X3D and 7000X3D chips included an extra-cache die on top of the CPU die, which forced AMD to lower their maximum boost frequency to avoid overheating (the new 9000X3D processors have the cache die at the bottom to prevent this problem). This means the 5700X3D isn't really suited for productivity work. To be clear, the 5700X is already not designed for high productivity, and its X3D version is even less effective.
Leaping from the 2700 will provide a noticeable change. Without a 5700x3d, there won’t be a clear way to sense any shortcoming. The 5000 chips represent a significant upgrade over the 2000 series chips.
