You're considering upgrading to either a 2700 or 3600 MHz processor for your AsRock X470 SLI/AC motherboard. You're also interested in gaming and have a backup 2200G RAM module ready for installation.

I fully understand the two additional cores and four extra threads, though their impact on single-thread performance is less favorable. That’s where I was focusing my efforts.

Varies by game and graphics card. Unless you consistently achieve 100fps, the performance gap between 3rd and 2nd generation GPUs is minimal, aside from exceptions like Cities Skylines.

For those not focused on ultra-high refresh rate gaming, the 2700 offers solid value as a versatile gaming PC.

I work with video editing content and use the 3600 platform. The 2700x offers more cores, which can be advantageous for certain tasks.

NCH videopad video editor works well on my laptop with an i5-7300hq. It takes roughly 5 seconds to encode a second of video.

2700x works better for encoding, while 3600 is quicker in most cases. I’d choose 3600—it’ll remain fast enough.

MC offers an amazing offer on the 2700x for $160. I bought it last week and am really impressed. It's my first AMD in about ten years. I'm not sure if my 9700k is the issue or if the 2700x is just that impressive, but I'm seeing better encoding results with it. Both models are a bit overclocked.
