I'm just starting with building PCs (my first one) and all the videos I've watched don't mention where to connect the USB drive. Also, I have a question about whether I can use an external hard drive with games on it to install an operating system that would keep all the game data on my PC.

Are you talking about Windows? The installer is there, but you still require a valid license. It costs around $100.
What is included in that USB you mentioned?

I don't have anything on the USB drive, so I'm thinking about using my external hard drive instead. If it deletes data during installation, I won't need it afterward. When I download an OS and the drive is ready to connect, do I simply plug it into the top port of the case?

Ensure you use an 8GB or bigger flash drive and have a proper Windows license. Connect it via a USB port on the case. Go through the instructions briefly to understand the steps.

I'll be downloading Linux instead since I don't want to waste 100 dollars when everything works alike. After finishing the download on the USB drive, will I insert it into the motherboard slot, the GPU, or the top of the case? If you need images, just let me know.

Do your games work on Linux? Usually not.
