Hey everyone, It's been a long time since I put together my own computer. Now, I'm thinking about swapping the parts or rebuilding from scratch. Or maybe you could give me some advice? I think my system is pretty good, but it feels like it isn't as fast as I thought. Here are the parts I have: CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600X Processor Motherboard: MSI MPG X570 GAMING PRO CARBON WIFI ATX AM4 RAM: Corsair Vengeance Pro 16 GB (2 sticks of 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 RAM: Corsair Vengeance Pro 16 GB (2 sticks of 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Storage: Samsung 970 Evo 500 GB M.2 NVMe Hard Drive Storage: Samsung 970 Evo 500 GB M.2 NVMe Hard Drive Video Card: Asus STRIX GAMING OC GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Graphics Card Case: Phanteks Evolv X Mid Tower Case Power Supply: Corsair TX650M Gold PSU I mostly play Call of the Wild in The Hunter, Dota 2, Counterstrike 2, Risk of Rain 2, and Way of the Hunter. Sometimes, a video or app is open on my second monitor while I'm gaming or playing other stuff. Usually, I'll be playing my main game and Osrs at the same time, or I might be using Adobe Lightroom while watching videos. I had to fix my graphics card because it was overheating and crashing in The Hunter: COTW. So, I took out the old part and replaced it with 3 Noctua fans instead. On CS2, my FPS averages around 120, but sometimes goes lower on deathmatch servers. I really want to play Call of the Wild in The Hunter at higher settings without my computer shaking or getting hot. Any help would be super cool. Thanks in advance! Fabian

If you want to keep what you already own, consider this: buy an upgrade like a 5700X3D or a 9070 XT. If you live near a microcenter, you can grab one of their bundles that includes the 7800X3D, 7600X3D, or even a 7700X. Add in some extra money for a power supply unit and you're set up with a brand new system right now.

Thanks a lot, I'm going to check out the microcentre first. If that doesn't work, 5700x3d is pretty good for now!

Here is my simple way to answer this big question about games: Some games feel fast because they have cool graphics, like fast action shooters. Other games feel slow even if the graphics look good because they need lots of power from your CPU, things like strategy games or simulators. Multiplayer stuff usually likes having many threads running at once. You should figure out which one applies to you by doing these two tests:

a) Play your favorite game but turn down the picture quality and make the graphics a little weaker. If your frames per second goes up, that means your CPU is strong enough to handle better graphics settings on its own. If your frames stay exactly the same even though you made the graphics weaker, then it shows you are mostly limited by how fast your CPU can process things.

b) Try to slow down your CPU power too, like turning the clock speed down or using Windows power settings to cap it at 70%. Or go to Control Panel > Power Options and turn up the "Maximum processor state" slider to 30% so you see what happens when a computer is weak. It will tell you how much better your CPU actually does if you give it more speed instead of letting it sit idle.

I have picked up the 5700x3D and it looks like it is changing things up way too much.

You did a good choice. Your graphics card is still super good for CS2 because it has an RTX 5060 level of performance. You were getting so low FPS with CS2 or CS:GO before that, and those games are very sensitive to CPU power and single-core speed. The X3600X doesn't work well in this competitive game. A better processor like the X3D will keep your 1% and 0.1% lows at a high level.
