Looking for north-facing RGB 3-pin or 5-pin switches? A suitable option is to check popular retailers or brands where such switches are commonly available.

I really wished for the Akko Dracula, but those are south-facing RGB, I need north facing.
An example:
I decided to go with the Gateron 2.0, hoping there would be more options.

This is one of the most affordable options for ordering switches...

I'm planning to order the AKKO Dracula for my Zoom75 TIGA build next year, so I'll be there with your.
Regarding whether it should go north or south facing, that's not about the switches themselves but the PCB of your keyboard. The switch direction depends on the PCB orientation. With a clear keycap design or "pudding" style caps, more RGB is visible from a north-facing PCB because the font and shine-through are positioned higher up.
When people refer to RGB switches, they usually mean between clear switches and solid color switches, which let in more light.

What are switches designed for optimal letter glow and readability while minimizing PCB backlight? I need clear visibility of illuminated characters in darkness with minimal underlying RGB illumination.

You should choose a PCB that faces north with a consistent color switch. This ensures the light only passes through the opening and into the key caps. With a clear switch or a south-facing PCB, the RGB will appear more on the underside.
