when individuals move from windows 8 to 8.1 they often face issues, and their antivirus didn't update properly, which can harm the system. with windows 10, things seem different?

Did they? Most folks I've spoken to faced no issues during the upgrade, even with older versions like 7, 8, or 8.1, which suggests it should have been a smoother, more gradual process.

I faced no issues with 7 -> 10, which means I don’t think 10 -> 10.x will cause significant problems. It’s usually just the front end needing updates.
