I'm a console player and this would be my first PC and my first time playing on PC. I'm curious—are mechanical keyboards really better? Should I go for one to get used to it, or start with a regular one? Is the extra cost worth it?

I suggest visiting a store and experimenting with display keyboards to understand their differences. For instance, MX reds are widely used in gaming, but I find them too "mushy" for everyday tasks because they lack clear feedback when the button is fully pressed. Instead, I opt for MX browns, which perform excellently in games but provide better tactile feedback for other activities. Ultimately, it comes down to individual preference.

For those seeking feedback similar to MX browns, tactile responses are ideal, avoiding the loud clicks found in MX blues. There are also hybrid switches that blend mechanical and scissor designs, offering low-profile keys with a solid feel. Switching from a slim membrane razer to a Corsair K70 meant adjusting to taller keys, which was easier after years of using compact models.
It really depends on the switch type.
I experimented with around five different Cherry MX and other mechanical switches before settling on my current keyboard. I can say I prefer them in any situation compared to Chiclet or other low-profile keys.
I also picked Cherry MX Brown, which I believe works better for typing, gaming, image editing, etc., than the others I tried.
