It's for a young child, so simple browsing is needed. I notice many options between $100 and $200, but I'm not sure about the technology behind them. I'm just looking for something that works well and lasts.

you'd need to connect certain components so we can determine the available specifications. ideally, aim for maximum RAM and ample storage. they should all come with standard CPUs, possibly even a mobile processor from a tablet. without specific models to examine, it's hard to know exactly what you're aiming for. a good rule of thumb is prioritize RAM and then select the best CPU possible.

Are the advancements in technology truly comparable to those in a standard laptop? You're wondering if the processors and setups they use are similar, especially considering the availability of affordable options with 4GB of RAM for less than $200.

Usually students get chromebooks nowadays. These devices run on mobile ARM chips but can also work with standard Intel and AMD systems. They function mainly as browser-based operating systems. They offer a budget-friendly option compared to x86 Windows laptops, though high-quality Windows models are available for around $200 if you search carefully. 4GB of RAM under $100 is now achievable for quite some time. Most models use inexpensive eMMC flash memory that is permanently attached. Generally, these units lack easily replaceable components.
