Hello everyone! This is my initial contribution to the forum, and I've noticed many of you have tackled similar issues, so I hope we can find a resolution for my situation.

I recently purchased a Toshiba Laptop Satellite S855D-S5253 with the following specifications:
CPU: Amd A10-4600m Quad Core 2.3 ghz
RAM: 6 GB
GPU: Amd Radeon HD 7660G 512 MB
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium (recently reinstalled W7 Ultimate) x64

The issue I'm facing is that when playing a game—such as Sonic Generations—I experience performance drops. With the laptop connected, the game runs smoothly at 22–35 FPS, but when unplugged, it drops to 40–45 FPS most of the time and occasionally slows to 35 FPS. I've verified that all drivers are functioning correctly, especially the Radeon HD 7660G, and I've set power plans to prioritize maximum performance and configured the CPU in Catalyst Control Center to run at full clock speed when plugged in. Despite these adjustments, nothing has improved.

Using Amd System Monitor, I found that during basic tasks (like browsing or using Windows), the cores operate at 2.3 ghz while plugged in, but drop to 1.5 ghz when I start playing a game. Once I disconnect the laptop, the performance returns to normal.

I've tried using a different charger to rule out a hardware issue with the original one, but the problem persists. Could anyone provide any insight into what might be causing this? I really want to keep my laptop running efficiently, as my battery life is limited and it seems I only get optimal performance when playing games without power.

Thank you for your help—I'll continue monitoring this thread regularly.

Hi
I run a laptop repair business...
Two questions here...
After upgrading to Ultimate, did you REFORMAT the drive or JUST UPGRADE? Because if you reformatted, you also erased all the Tosh power control software.
Second point... what if you take out the battery and rely only on mains power?
All the best, Brett

Hi
I own a laptop repair company....
Two thoughts here...
When you upgraded to Ultimate, did you FORMAT the drive or UPGRADE ??
Because if you formatted, you also wiped ALL the Tosh power control software....
Second thought..what happens if you REMOVE the battery and just run on the mains power ??
All the best Brett
Wow! Thank you for your ultra fast response!
😀
I formated the drive when i upgraded to Ultimae, hmmm but i'm pretty sure I reinstalled all the drivers. But i will check if find any Toshiba power control software that i may be possibly missing.
Oh! And I tried removing the battery but i'm keep having the same results as before
🙁

Hi
There is a LOT of that TOSH stuff....you may have to go back to Home Premium to find out if that cures it....
Just out of interest, WHY did you upgrade to Ultimate when its so expensive and gives you very little extra ?
All the best Brett

Yeah I think I was pretty foolish about doing that.
The issue is that when I purchased this laptop on Amazon and received it, it didn’t come with a restore CD so I can revert to Home Premium...are you certain I won’t be able to fix this on Windows 7 Ultimate? I really don’t know what to do now...

Edusama shared their thoughts about a situation they faced.
The issue arose because the laptop they purchased on Amazon didn't include a restore CD, making it difficult to revert to Home Premium. They questioned whether this problem could be resolved on Windows 7 Ultimate and expressed uncertainty about what steps to take next.

I've been using this laptop for a month now and haven't noticed the problem until I played demanding games like BF 3, Sonic Generations, Fable III, etc. The first day after getting it, I upgraded to Ultimate because a friend gave me one. I was thinking, "Why not?" 😀
But now I'm regretting that upgrade... could it really be the cause of my issue?

The issue is that I don't reside in the USA to receive it, right?... also... in theory if returning to Home Premium doesn't fix my problem, what other options could I consider?

Hi
I'm based in the UK...but I usually avoid custom solutions from here (they might skew my advice).
Personally, I wouldn't attempt anything else until you've reversed it...
Take care, all the best, Brett
