My top choice for free-to-play FPS games is Blacklight Retribution. People say Dirty Bomb isn't terrible yet.

Currently it's Skyforge. Typically it's Black Light Retribution with servers offline for a big update. Tribes: Ascend (abandoned by developers). Flyff is gone. BOTS are inactive. Fiesta Online is closed. Skyforge remains open beta and looks great.

Playing aviation or the army? I found Army games engaging when I first began, but those Russian tanks seem overpowered. I've tried the Focke-Wulf 190 and haven't looked back at tanks or any other nation. Considering purchasing an A-8 for the U.S. because I believe they have top jets and I want a plane to excel in lower-tier missions.
