What's up with Asrock?
I am currently seeing huge sales of Asrock Motherboards in my area and online. Can anyone tell me what is up with this and whether I should take advantage of it and get one?
Their higher end boards are decent but their lower end ones I'd probably avoid. They won't seed them to reviewers, and that kind of says something.
Asrock mainly produced low-quality boards in the mid-2000s alongside ECS and biostar. Recently they seem to have improved their offerings. Since receiving a board from them, I’ve always been disappointed, though it’s possible things have changed. Most board companies have cleaned up and now only keep their original names.
Asrock has made progress, though their older boards before the ddr4 era were full of outdated components and terrible BIOS support, lacking impressive OC capabilities without needing major modifications like an ASUS BIOS update.
It depends on the platform and processor you're considering. Available boards vary in price and availability, but AsRock isn't recommended for new builds. I haven't used AsRock much myself, though the boards from the top manufacturers have lasted a long time. Sometimes tweaking voltage settings and dealing with solder issues can cause problems. Lol.
I've only owned one Assrock board, which is my Z77 OC Formula. I probably wouldn't buy that brand often, but a kind person offered me a great deal when I needed it. The board works well enough, and I like it.
