What’s the value of my computer?
Hello everyone! I’m Michael, and I enjoy playing computer games. I’ve assembled four personal computers (I’m simply a recreational builder; I don’t possess advanced knowledge of PC construction).
I would price it at $1000 if I weren’t under pressure to sell immediately, and I’d be willing to reduce the cost considerably. A sale for $2000 is highly challenging considering one could assemble a comparable system for approximately $1100-$1200. Furthermore, once these parts are removed from their original packaging, their value drops dramatically – almost a third – and that depreciation occurred nearly three years ago. Ultimately, if a suitable buyer isn't located, you can likely achieve around $800.
I would price it at $1000 if I weren’t urgently needing to sell it, and I’d be willing to reduce the cost substantially. A sale for $2000 is highly challenging given that you could assemble a comparable system new for approximately $1100-$1200. Furthermore, once these parts are removed from their original packaging, their value drops dramatically—nearly one-third and around three years ago. Considering this, I anticipate receiving roughly $800 as a realistic outcome if no ideal buyer is located.
I’d price it at $1000 provided I didn’t require a rapid sale, and I’d be willing to reduce the cost considerably. A sale of $2000 would be exceptionally challenging given that you could assemble an equally capable computer system for approximately $1100-$1200. Essentially, once these parts are removed from their original packaging, their value drops substantially – almost a third, and this was several years ago. Honestly, if you can’t locate the ideal buyer, I anticipate receiving around $800 as a final price.
It seems your assessment is accurate; my third computer build cost just $1,100 and performed very similarly to this one.
Thank you for that insight!
If I encountered this advertisement, I would purchase it for between 400 and 500 US dollars. What’s the reason?
I’d price this at $1000 if I weren’t needing to sell it urgently, and I’d be willing to lower the asking price considerably. You're correct; my previous PC build cost just $1,100 and performed similarly to this one.
Thank you for that assessment!
However, be prepared to reduce the initial price because these are used components. I don’t anticipate achieving $1000, but if you aren't pressed for time, it doesn’t hurt to propose that amount. The fact that the system is well-configured and doesn’t require separation into individual parts does benefit you.
I forgot to mention this is AUD (Australian Dollars), for some reason I cant edit my thread, so ill just do it here
Regarding GodMikesBeats:
I neglected to state that this price is in Australian Dollars. I’m unable to modify my original post, so I will add this information here.
It truly does have an impact! $1000 equates to approximately 1400 AUD, and unfortunately, both you and those in New Zealand face a significant surcharge for these components.
Here’s a revised version of the text:

Yes, it’s disappointing how much we have to pay… however, there isn't much that can be done... (the price of RAM has increased dramatically compared to three years ago).
