Last time I aimed to create a YouTube video for some extra cash and I need to find out the optimal OBS configuration. My screen resolution is 1440x900, and since I often play fast-paced games, I’m looking for the best setup. Apologies for the English mistakes—removed by staff. Edited May 3, 2020 by LogicalDrm

For scaling to 720p, a bitrate of 5-7 Mbps seems appropriate.

In short, the upload speed you can actually handle gives you the optimal bitrate for YouTube, since higher speeds reduce compression quality.

The recommended bitrate depends on your upload capacity. They previously used a formula like 2 times the bitrate plus 1.2 times that value. For a 10Mbps upload, the ideal would be around 3500kbps—exceeding typical 720p30 requirements. Note: The link was removed; sharing personal YouTube content outside status updates isn't permitted.

3klicksphilip mentioned that YouTube retains the original files and boosts the available resolutions and bitrates whenever it chooses to do so. He shared that he uploaded 4K videos before they became viewable in 4K. Now those clips are accessible in 4K quality.

Youtube offers more flexible streaming options than Twitch. For high-quality 4K, use the suggested encoder settings and bitrates. Twitch has a lower limit of 6MBps for non-partner streams.
