What's the best way to assess your PC and upgrade your GPU?
Hello,
for your GPU upgrade suggestion on the current system, here are the details:
Commonly played games include PUBG, GTA, RDR2, Battlefield, etc.
Option-1: RTX 5060 8G GDDR7 – 340$
Option-2: RTX 3070 12G – 245$
Looking at prices and performance, the 3070 seems to be the better choice. What are your thoughts?
Current System Specs:
GPU: Nvidia 1650 Super 4GB
Motherboard: MSI B450 Gaming Plus Max
CPU: Ryzen 3600X 6-core
RAM: 2 x 16GB
Display Resolution: 2K 2560 x 1440
Thank you.
Where can you find a 12GB RTX 3070? There are only 12GB RTX 3060 units available, and this is made possible by a 192-bit bus—chips without this feature don’t support 384-bit, which would result in lower performance than the standard 3070’s 8GB on 256-bit. This is why there aren’t any 12GB 3060 Ti models. If you need more VRAM, the extra $100 for a 16GB 5060 Ti might be worth it.
Also think about the 9060xt with 16gb. It offers more power and additional VRAM compared to those boards.
for games we can look at gta 6 and others will fit well
i'm based in dubai
the other hardware specifics like psu and bios i'll manage myself but i need the gpu base on your experience with the new series
nvidia is preferred over amd, isn't it?
8gb seems not enough for gta vi?
If your power supply unit isn't sufficient, then regardless of the GPU you choose...you'll face more problems later. We must allocate funds for your GPU as well.
AMD tends to perform better with low-end CPUs due to reduced driver overhead. Their designs cater to consoles, even those with weak Jaguar CPUs, allowing the GPU to handle more tasks while nVidia relies on software drivers for efficiency. If you possess a powerful CPU with ample spare cores and can ensure your GPUs operate with lower power consumption—because some workload is shifted to the CPU—the results can be impressive. For instance, with a Ryzen 5 3600x, an RTX 3070 often matches or exceeds the performance of a RX5600XT, which uses only 60W less power despite being a smaller card. Check the video here: https://youtu.be/JLEIJhunaW8?si=G6TWTEChTGfbwY2H&t=120. To maximize nVidia’s potential, consider upgrading to a CPU like 5500X3D/5600X3D/5700X3D or 5800X3D that your system supports. An AMD option would stretch your budget further.
If I were you, I wouldn't opt for an 8 GB video card, particularly for 2K resolution.
For tasks other than gaming that require CUDA cores, choose NVIDIA.
However, if it's solely for gaming, skip NVIDIA and consider this option (10% off available now).
Sapphire Radeon RX 9060 XT PULSE 16GB – 1,525.00 AED
I looked into the latest PSU, it's ZALMAN ECOMAX 600W 83 + with dual 8-pin, is it suitable for mid-card mods? That sounds like a great choice.
