According to what I've heard, the primary issue is that it doesn't feel like Steam.

There's nothing really wrong with it. It's just annoying to have. I mean, if I open the game on steam, why does uplay need to be open?

Overall, this DRM content is useless. It's not only poor quality but also created by Ubisoft, which already draws enough criticism. Many dislike it because Ubisoft frequently uses it across their games. People prefer buying directly on Steam without such restrictions.

Begin here—login problems are really frustrating, and resetting passwords keeps happening without cause. Activating games is equally annoying, as updates often lag or fail. Downloads and installs take ages, even for purchased titles. Internet issues pop up occasionally, despite everything seeming fine. And let's be clear—it's Ubisoft.

I've had a rough time or maybe didn't put in enough effort. I got two copies from Uplay because it was cheaper than places like Green Man Gaming and Steam. Just keep an eye out for deals when they pop up.

I believe it bothers many because it’s the trendy way to express dislike.

Well, for instance the 1-4 hours of downtime Uplay experienced this morning and no one was able to play FC4. Most folks couldn't even get Uplay into offline mode, while others couldn't even complete the download. On the positive side, those who pirated the game were playing and having a great time (some even shared their experiences in the thread I linked). In my view, it adds an extra layer of "security" I have to navigate just to enjoy my games. I'd prefer buying a game through Uplay that requires using Uplay itself, but if I purchase a Ubisoft title via Steam, the only DRM I should encounter is Steam, not Steam+Uplay.
