I was operating my computer when it abruptly stopped and shut down. Restart attempts failed. Unplugging the power and then reconnecting didn’t help; the fan started briefly, the RGB lights flashed, but it died again. The motherboard power indicator remained on. After disconnecting all cables and reattaching them carefully, I used a paper clip to check the PSU cable—results confirmed the power supply was functional. I plan to receive a power cord tomorrow to verify. I’m uncertain about the exact specifications since I purchased it second-hand. My components listed were unclear. The motherboard is a Sabertooth X79. I’m unsure whether to replace the thermal paste.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
When posting a thread of troubleshooting nature, it's customary to include your full system's specs. Please list the specs to your build like so:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
include the age of the PSU apart from it's make and model. BIOS version for your motherboard at this moment of time.
Try without a discrete GPU and see if the system powers up. You can then drop the discrete GPU into your motherboard's first PCIe slot.

Restart the CMOS, disconnect all but a single RAM stick, and attempt to boot once more.
What CPU, RAM, PSU, and other parts are available? This information is crucial for further diagnosis.

Would that mean eliminating the GPU and attempting to operate the device?

I took out the GPU but the fan and RGB stayed on briefly. Moving it to PCIe slot 1 didn't change anything.

The paperclip test only indicates the presence of power, not a working supply. The supply is quite outdated and probably not functioning properly.

I can suggest a suitable budget-friendly power supply that fits your needs.

I was using my computer and it suddenly stopped working. I attempted to restart it, but it wouldn't come back on. When I unplugged the power and then plugged it back in, the fan started briefly and the RGB lights flashed before it shut down again. The motherboard power indicator stayed on. After disconnecting all cables and reconnecting them carefully, I checked the PSU and found it was functional. I used a paper clip to secure the cable and tested it, confirming the power supply was working. I swapped in a different power cord and tried using a new one. I also removed the RAM modules one by one to see if that resolved the issue. A replacement PSU arrived, but it still displayed the same lights for a moment before becoming unresponsive. The motherboard model is Sabertooth X79. I’m not certain about all the specifications since I purchased it second-hand.

CPU: Not sure what model
CPU cooler: Master cooler
Motherboard: Sabertooth X79
RAM: Corsair 16 gig vengeance
Storage: SSD
GPU: GTX 1650
PSU: HX620W
Chassis: Gamemax
OS: Linux Mint
Monitor: AOC and Acer
