What’s causing my mouse delay while gaming?
Over the past week, my mouse has exhibited lag jumps in Call of Duty and Fortnite. My games are currently unplayable, causing significant frustration that has led me to consider a full computer reset. Despite my PC running both games at over 100 frames per second without lag, my aim cursor frequently darts erratically and appears stuck. The mouse functions perfectly on other applications. I have attempted reinstalling Nvidia drivers, rolling them back, and accessing the Nvidia control panel (which is now unavailable), as well as performing manual updates to my PC’s components, all without success. I can provide video examples if anyone has suggestions for troubleshooting this issue.
What mouse is that? Are drivers installed for it? If so, attempt to uninstall them. The mouse may function correctly on other computers, but have you tried a different mouse on your system? Have you tested it with a different surface? Does lag occur in Windows and while browsing? If NvidiaCP is missing, and you are using Windows 10, it can be found in the Microsoft Store. Nvidia no longer provides the control panel as part of their drivers.
It is a Logitech G502. I’ve uninstalled the drivers and re installed them a few times. I’ve tried multiple surfaces. The mouse ONLY lags in game and works fine on the desktop and browsing. I also tried downloading Nvidia Control panel from the App Store and it didn’t work, based on the reviews it wouldn’t work anyway.
The Nvidia Control Panel from the Microsoft Store functions correctly with a simple process. It appears to be a synchronization problem, potentially involving Vsync or another type of sync. If Vsync is disabled, attempt to set a manual frame rate limit. If the mouse operates correctly on your desktop, the issue may stem from how the game’s engine responds to movement. Because Nvidia's software Vsync can override the game’s own Vsync, try both options – Nvidia’s or the game's – but limit the frame rate slightly below your refresh rate.
I reduced my frame rate to 120 and enabled Vsync, which significantly improved performance. I don’t understand why this occurred given that I had always disabled Vsync and previously experienced no issues.
