What will the RTX 5070 Super be like this year?
I know its all rumors at this point, but they stated we may see the Super cards this year. Being we are already in mid year at this point, is it realistic we may see the Super cards this Fall, or even by Xmas time? Im still waiting for the time to get a GPU and prices on all better cards are still through the roof. So Im waiting for prices to come down and stock to get better. I could get a 5070 right now, but with the Super possibly coming soon, I'd rather wait if it means better performance. I do 8K video editing and I need as good a card as I can afford. And Nvidia cards seem the best for rendering videos and production uses. Anyone hear anything more on the Super cards?
Theres discussion Nvidia is losing market share to AMD, and the Nvidia cards are as a result are not selling very well, partially because of the inflated prices for them. AMD is killing it right now. Keep in mind Im just talking about the midgrade 5070 series, not the high end stuff which is perpetually out of stock.
Even if Nvidia loses 5% of its market share to AMD, they still maintain a significant advantage, effectively having triple the resources. This means genuine competition remains limited for Nvidia. And when a company has a monopoly, it can set prices as it sees fit.
I’m not certain about the resolution, but I’ll take a chance and say these cards with their DLSS and frame generation capabilities can really boost performance.
I bought a 5060ti with 16GB recently, which was MSRP. That card for $429 isn’t too bad. I’ve had AMD GPUs before over the past few years, so I’d definitely think about getting another one. However, I’m using a 180Hz 27-inch 1440p display. To be honest, even at 1440p, the 5060ti still performs quite well considering its price. For instance, when I run high settings on Oblivion Remastered and enable frame generation with DLSS, I usually achieve over 100fps. Other titles like Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 also run smoothly on it. I’m actually impressed by how they incorporate AI in newer cards, and it makes sense that eventually faster cards become harder to develop. My next GPU will likely be from the 70 or 80 series, but based on my experience with the 5060ti, it’s worth considering whether you really need cards costing $1000 or more if you have sufficient VRAM. They’re decent, but I’m content with this one for now, assuming it lasts until next year. If they release an 18GB 5070 Super, that would be a great upgrade to watch for.
But you might also want to check out the AMD 9070 and 9070xt. My local Microcenter just had 9070s for $659 and 9070xt cards for $699. It’s worth keeping an eye on those too.
