You should consider if your setup might face performance limits when adding the Ryzen 7 3700X alongside the GTX 1060. Check for compatibility and potential bottlenecks.

Depends entirely on the performance target. That being said, if this is a gaming PC and you're buying a new CPU for better performance, an 8 core is definitely more than you'd need. A Ryzen 5 3600 is likely to achieve the same performance.

You're considering a CPU upgrade strategy where you prioritize a strong processor now and plan to switch to a better GPU later. Your decision was based on core count and performance expectations. With a Ryzen 5 1600, you aimed for at least 8 cores over 6 cores. Even if you don't need the extra cores right away, having 8 can still be beneficial for multitasking or future upgrades. It's a good idea to keep that in mind.

I would handle the board carefully with eight cores, though it performs well in a setup with airflow. I can only provide evidence for six cores; eight cores will load the VRMs far more intensely than six will.

It seems like you're considering whether these CPUs are sufficient or if it's better to invest now for future upgrades. The 6-core 12-thread models are solid for gaming today, and with the upcoming 4000 series Ryzen options, you could save and upgrade later when you need more threads.

Yes, the Ryzen 5 3600x could be a better choice if you're considering a lower power draw and still want solid performance.

This 3600 non-X model offers outstanding performance at a great price.

Occasionally, the CPU becomes the limiting factor, while in many situations the GPU takes the lead.

I want to begin upgrading components since my PC is becoming a bit outdated. With the Ryzen 5 3600, when would be the next time I need another upgrade?

Upgrade only when performance falls short of expectations, and timing will indicate when it’s needed.
