What type of power supply should I purchase?
What type of power supply should I purchase?
Hi everyone, I’m looking for a new power supply and wondering if an 850-watt unit is sufficient. Will it be a good choice for the future?
Here’s a list of fully modular power supplies available locally:
1) Corsair RM850e 80+Gold ATX 3.0 – 10800 USD
2) NZXT 850Watt 80+Gold full modular – 10553 USD
3) EVGA Supernova 850 GT 80 Plus Gold – 10999 USD
4) Deepcool DQ850M V3L 850 Watt 80 Plus Gold – 9250 USD
These options were selected because Corsair is highly recommended, NZXT for its appearance, EVGA for brand recognition, and Deepcool for affordability.
my spec is : pro : i5 6600k

my Z170 failed me two years ago.
and my GTX 960 did too two years ago.
also why are there more H110 boards for cheap while Z170 or Z270 are very hard to find?
Age.
Unless you're planning major overhauls soon, you likely don't require anything close to that power rating. Realizing that cheaper options with lower wattage aren't especially affordable here, but honestly you'd probably struggle to sell the whole setup for just a bit more than what you paid for it, new. Being straightforward, this is exactly the kind of rig where buying a budget power supply makes sense. I'm not recommending the Smart lineup, but the Toughpower series seems suitable. I'd be surprised if this system manages to draw more than about 250W from the wall, and probably around 150W.
The difficulty in finding those motherboards stems from their age. New stock for this model is usually long out of stock. This presents a solid opportunity for an upgrade. Even an i3 12th generation would be noticeably faster now. If you're going frugal, even a 10th generation i3 would significantly improve upon the older i5.
