What to anticipate from the AM5 Bundle Upgrade?
Hello Everyone,
I’m planning to buy an AM5 bundle and replace my I7-8700K, Z390 Designare Mobo, along with a few random G.SKILL 2666 RAM sticks. Recently, I’ve become really into Escape From Tarkov, and my CPU is struggling to stay stable. It’s managed most tasks well over the past years, but I feel it’s time for an upgrade. I’m moving to AM5 because LGA1700 seems like a dead end given our current knowledge about the 15th-gen Arrow Lake sockets. In my opinion, AM5 still has several years left in its life.
The bundle includes a Ryzen 7800X3D, B650 Mobo, and G.Skill Flare x5 32GB RAM sticks.
My plan is to keep all my existing components and integrate them into the new build. I’m wondering what to expect after swapping these parts. I’ve upgraded my PC many times before, but never with a CPU or MOBO before. Last year I tried installing new RAM sticks and couldn’t post, so I returned them and reinstalled the old ones.
On another note, my Windows is installed on an external SSD. Would it be possible to install Windows directly without buying a new OS? I’m not too concerned about redownloading games or starting over, but I just want to understand what I’m getting into before making the purchase and swapping parts.
Also, I generally dislike AIO coolers, but I’m unsure if a 7800X3D would overheat without one. I have a decent heatsink from about a year ago that cost around $120. I’d prefer to keep it, but if the chip overheats it could affect its lifespan. For Tarkov at 1080p, I think it’s manageable, but I’d probably stick to 1080p unless I want to risk performance. Watching streams and keeping tabs open would be enough for now.
Maybe I’ll experiment with 1440p using this bundle, but for most purposes I’ll stick with 1080p.
I know this discussion is a bit scattered, but my main goal is to prepare for the changes and take necessary precautions before making any adjustments.
This requires a full system reinstall because you're switching the motherboard or moving to a different platform. The performance difference will be significant. Could you confirm the exact CPU cooler model? The 7800X3D tends to overheat. Which GPU are you using?
Hey, I think it’s the Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro 5. My GPU is a 3060. I’m thinking about swapping GPUs soon because the 3060 was just a temporary fix for my 2016 Titan X that failed last summer due to overheating. It was the only compatible option on that Z390 1151 socket. I’m expecting this could create a bottleneck, but I don’t plan to use it for more than a few months. I feel like upgrading is the most urgent change I can make, even though I might already be dealing with an 8th generation issue.
Yeah the 3060 will be enough for now, and to be honest, if it serves you well in escape from tarkov, i wouldnt change it, i would wait and save money for something a lot stronger and newer that might release down the line. The CPU cooler is enough, just make sure to repaste it correctly and you are all good. Also dont worry about bottlenecks, play around with the settings and find the best balance, at 1080p, your 3060 wont do as much work as it would on 1440p, so just find the correct settings and you are good to go.
