What steps should I take to restore my home NAS access following an upgrade to Windows 11 Pro 24H2?
What steps should I take to restore my home NAS access following an upgrade to Windows 11 Pro 24H2?
Help, new network user...
After the recent Windows update, Win no longer recognizes my network storage drive (Buffalo Linkstation LS210D). It doesn't appear in the Network settings either. Buffalo's website shows no software updates beyond 2020, and my understanding is my issue relates to Win 11's increased security measures. I checked "Windows Features" to ensure all three options for SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing were enabled, but it didn't resolve the problem. Any other steps I can take? I'm really struggling here.
Note: I'm connected to a private network, not public.
I've reinstalled Win 11 on my other two PCs to version 23H2, as someone suggested 24H2 might still have bugs. I'm holding off for a while before updating again, hoping it will work out. Does this seem like a fix that Win will eventually handle, or is it up to me to troubleshoot further?
Examine all available logs. Also review the Relibility History/Monitor and Event Viewer. Update the history as well. You might discover an error code, warning, or informational event just before or during the time NAS access was lost. Or when access returned. Or possibly both. Search for restart events.
Do you know which SMB version the Buffalo used? It's possible that Windows has turned off an older SMB version for security reasons. You usually can turn it back on -- the link provided offers guidance.
Yes, I confirmed the NAS app operates with SMB1 and SMB2, switching automatically between them. No SMB3 is available. Your provided link matches what I received and described. Also, the issue persists on both Win 11 Pro and Win 11 Home. Should I turn off SMB1 in the NAS? Would that resolve the problem?
SMB etc. can cause issues.
But let's go back a bit:
Could you confirm all networking requirements and configuration settings?
For example: network name, IP addresses, subnet masks, MAC addresses, login names, passwords, mappings, etc.?
Make sure everything is correct.
I believe those settings must be right. It just happened that I can now reach my NAS. I don't understand why.

Based on what I understand, it seems related to disabling digital signing and letting unsecured guests in. The last part is unclear since I'm using my credentials on the NAS. I shouldn't have to let that happen. I really miss W10.
I also want to know if staying with 23H2 means Microsoft will stop updating it now that 24H2 is no longer available.
Good to know - thank you.
If I remain with 23H2, will Microsoft cease updating it now that 24H2 is available?
Not everyone can upgrade to 24H2, so I wouldn't anticipate Microsoft stopping all updates to 23H2 right away.
At least not in the short term.
Updates to 23H2 might be restricted only to essential fixes for security issues or discovered problems.
In the future, as has occurred with previous updates, full support for 23H2 will likely end.
Other comments may appear later.
I'm worried about allowing unsecured guests. If I can reach my NAS without my password, is it safe for others?
