How well your Ryzen 7 1800X and 3060 Ti perform depends on your usage, but running at 120 with freezing issues is not typical. Check if the performance matches your needs and consider upgrading for smoother operation.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
When posting a thread of troubleshooting nature, it's customary to include your full system's specs. Please list the specs to your build like so:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
include the age of the PSU apart from it's make and model. BIOS version for your motherboard at this moment of time.
If you upgraded your GPU, what GPU were you on prior?

CPU is a Ryzen 7 1800x with a Corsair water cooler. Motherboard supports B350 fan speed. RAM is 3200 MHz DDR4. Storage includes a 3 TB HDD and a 500 GB SSD. GPU is a 3060 Ti. Operating system is Windows 10 Pro. Monitor is a Dell 165Hz gaming display at 1080p. I haven’t made any upgrades yet, but I’m considering improvements to fix low FPS and freezing issues.

How much RAM and in what configuration?
What is your power supply?
Without knowing if there is an issue at play, the most obvious answer to your question would be whether your motherboard manufacturer has BIOS updates to allow Ryzen 5xxx.
The 3060 ti is stronger than a 1080 (which is my frame of reference) which I had in use alongside a R7 1700 and then a 2700X. On the latter setup I was seeing ~75 FPS at 1080P with high settings.

Are you in proximity to a Micro Center? Then you might secure favorable pricing on new CPUs, boards, and memory. What applications do you typically run on your standard HDD?

The B550i with a 5600x3d or the new 5700x3d will make a good upgrade, but
ultimately a GPU upgrade will provide the best performance boost. However, given your low CPU, it might limit things, so a CPU upgrade for the motherboard should come first in my opinion!
Then consider the future of GPUs next.

For gaming and general JavaScript tasks, it's best to stick with a reliable SSD.

It relies on the specific game being played. Updating the mobile BIOS can provide a 5700X3D CPU upgrade.
