My laptop was alright when I bought it brand new, but after update for some reason there is a spike in RAM when I open the task manager. The two tasks called "Desktop window manager" and "Windows Explorer" are eating up to 30% of my RAM. Is there any solution to this specific problem?

What is the make and model of your laptop? Having an SKU would be beneficial in two ways. Regarding your problem, consider performing a system restore to a state before the update and check if it resolves the issue. If that doesn't work, you might attempt reinstalling the OS by recreating the Windows 11 bootable USB installer to eliminate a faulty installer. Please ensure you back up any important data before proceeding.

Thank you for your message. Your laptop is an Asus Vivobook 14, model x415EA. You mentioned attempting multiple OS reinstalls and returning to Win 10 without resolving the issue, and you haven't created a restore point yet.

Likely related to the Windows "Fast Startup" function.

If by fast startup feature you meant quick launch, I also attempted it but it didn't work.

I think you'll find they mean the Windows Fast Startup option: Settings > System > Power & Sleep > Additional Power Settings > Choose what the power buttons do > unckeck Fast Startup
There usually is no point in worrying about RAM usage. The Windows memory manager is designed to maximise the use of RAM and it makes a far better job of managing RAM then you ever can. Please open Task Manager > Performance tab > Memory icon. Post a screenshot of that display when you think RAM is being over-used and I'll tell you whether you need to worry.

How much memory does it contain?
If it has only 4GB, think about upgrading.
ASUS X415 (11th Gen Intel) - Tech Specs|Laptops For Home|ASUS Global
Whether for work or fun, this laptop offers strong performance and vivid visuals.
www.asus.com
It mentions support for up to 12GB or 16GB of RAM (based on the amount of soldered memory).
