What software lets you track moving things inside a video?
Hello everyone, because it's my own curiosity (and some stuff related to my PhD project), I'm looking for video software that lets me follow things moving in a recorded clip. Specifically, I want to track where the mouse cursor went when someone was using Zoom and sharing their PowerPoint slides on the screen. Do you know any program that can do this? I hope it works out for me. Thanks!
You can use PowerShell and Python to get the mouse coordinates. For example, check these links for more info on how to do it in Windows. Maybe you could also try other languages like JavaScript using a tool called CodeGrepPerr. Basically, you'd need your program running all the time in a loop, sending those numbers somewhere or showing them on a screen. It might get really big fast, and maybe the computer needs to be at your desk while this happens. Then you could add the video of the moving mouse into the slideshow. You can look at some forums for more help, like Reddit posts about moving a cursor in PowerShell. I'm not sure how hard that would be or if it's okay on Zoom. There are also rules about using software that might stop you from getting paid. But just in case, Google suggests there are apps that could fit what you need.
I do not feel like this matches what OP wants. Think of a YouTube clip where a ball rolls across the screen. OP is looking for an app that can watch the whole thing and put a ring around the moving ball, kind of like what we saw earlier.
I did not think about the cursor as a ball or something else. Good idea. Anyway, there are probably many apps around now. I searched for "video image object tracking software". A lot of results came up. Maybe they could help me figure out what exactly you need, or just leave it to OP for more details. Using things like Powershell or Python might not make sense anymore. That's fair enough. Thanks!
