I previously used this Ryzen 5 5500 with an RX 5600 XT, but recent sales pushed me to upgrade to the RX 6700 XT. I’m worried about my performance not improving much in certain games—like in GTA V where I’d expect around 60% CPU and 50% GPU usage. I also noticed in “The Finals” my CPU hit 96% while the GPU stayed at 40%, and someone playing with a 1080 Ti got 130-140 FPS on TAA scaling, whereas I’m seeing only 90-100. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

It looks like in certain games the CPU limits GPU performance. You might want to boost graphics settings and consider overclocking the CPU. Cezanne can reach about 4.5-4.6GHz at 1.3V, but it varies by chip. PBO seems to be a good approach, though I’m not sure about the exact numbers. For Cezanne, aim for around 4600 MHz RAM, ideally keeping FCLK close to 5000 with ~1.35V vsOC. High-frequency DDR4 can be tricky to tune. The 5800X3D doesn’t improve much beyond 3200MHz after that due to cache limitations. If you share a screenshot of your RAM issues, it could help identify problems like Samsung C-DRAM not handling high speeds well.

When GPU usage appears minimal, the issue could stem from CPU constraints, insufficient settings, game engine restrictions, or resolution limitations. Are you viewing at 1080p? Have you thought about upgrading to 1440p? Is your setup equipped with dual-channel RAM, preferably exceeding 16GB, and is the memory speed adequate to support your Ryzen processor (3000+)?

I was thinking about buying a Ryzen 7 5700X, aiming for the same power draw as the Ryzen 5 5500 because I already have a 550W gold unit. Would the 5 5600X reduce the bottleneck more than the 7 5700X? Also, I didn’t mention that I’m using two 1080p monitors, which might play a role too.

Tdp is garbage and can be ignored, check reviews for actual power consumption what psu? Send pic of the wattage table Since its already running a 6700xt im pretty sure itll handle a mild oc on a 5500 or a 5800x3d just fine 5600x and 5700x are pretty horrible buys if you buy new cause of how overpriced they are compared to new 12600k(f) which absolutely annihilate them but you can get used 5600(x) for 80-100$ and used 5700x/5800x for 120-150$ with used 5800x3d going around 200-250$, theres no risk buying used cpus as they generally dont up and die

It's an EVGA 550 G3. I already have an overclock on the Ryzen 5 5500, which is because I chose "Precision Boost Overdrive" in Ryzen Master. I'm not sure if that matters much.
