What should I upgrade?
A couple of years back, I got a pre-built HP Pavilion VR Ready Gaming Desktop – it had an AMD Ryzen 5 2400G processor (clocking up to 3.9GHz), 8GB of DDR4 RAM, an AMD Radeon RX 580 graphics card, and a 1TB hard drive with a 512GB SSD for fast booting. I was using it to play games and run some programs at the same time, but lately it’s struggling to handle even those older games, and I can't seem to run anything in the background while gaming either. I’m thinking about adding two 8GB RAM sticks with a speed of 3000MHz, but I’m not sure what else might be worth upgrading. Could you give me some advice?
So, you’re saying it can’t run programs? Do games just keep crashing when you try to open them? If that’s the case, you probably don't have enough memory. Are you using one or two RAM sticks? If you only have one, adding another one and setting them up in dual-channel should make a big difference.
But honestly, you were taken advantage of – the R5 2400G comes with its own graphics card built-in, which you don’t need since you already have the 580. You'd be getting an extra two cores and four threads if you went with the non-G version instead.
When I’m listening to Spotify while I’m gaming, the game just refuses to start.
