I'm still figuring things out. I have a 32-inch TV next to my gaming rig, and I can connect via HDMI and use an Xbox 360 wireless controller for a console-like experience. Or maybe I should switch to a phone? http://www.mi.com/en/redminote

Are you suggesting choosing between the display and the device, or is your setup already complete?

Consider Xbox 360 and GTA V together only if you intend to use the system for more games. GTA V isn't valuable by itself.

I understand, you could simply take the phone and use a budget controller with Steam Big Picture for a great gaming feel on the couch.

I suggest a wireless controller that offers solid performance without exceeding the price of the Xbox Wireless Controller, supports Steam games, and works seamlessly with your current setup.

Sadly there aren't many wireless options beyond the standard 360. If you're considering a wired setup, the Razer Sabertooth is a solid choice.

No problem, I’m not very familiar with setting up wireless controllers. You’ll likely need a Bluetooth adapter, and there’s plenty of guidance available online. For the controllers, I’ve used both a standard 360 model and a Razer edition. Personally, the regular 360 is my favorite—it works quite well for me. You might find a cheaper one online or from friends.
