I'm exploring options for a pledge and trying to find a suitable option without overspending. I'm aiming for something modest but not the Aurora.

The aurora or the mustang are your sole options for starting vessels. I’d consider the Aurora LN. Both ships offer a bonus—small size and difficulty to hit, yet the LN provides solid weaponry despite some flaws. The upcoming addition of 1.1 means you can start renting ships soon, making it wise not to rush into something like a hornet. It’s also worth noting the game maintains good balance, emphasizing skill over ship strength; you can’t just rely on power to win.

If you're feeling bold, consider picking up an Avenger or a 300-series model—they're quite affordable. You might also opt for a Mustang Delta, which offers more power than an Aurora. All these choices stay under $100, which seems like a reasonable beginning.

Consider beginning with the most affordable AC starter package and evaluate it. Using the REC system will let you test other ships, then refine your preferences before upgrading or swapping packages with store credit.

I find the proposed ideas quite favorable. The LN aurora presents a slim profile with a tough arsenal, notably featuring CS missiles that some consider a challenging exploit due to their demanding nature. Its weaknesses include the absence of an ejection system and limited maneuverability. The Mustangs are compact yet agile, making them difficult to hit; selecting the right model depends on matching your playstyle. They lack lock-on missiles, though limited edition variants may offer upgrades later. The 300-series ships are solid choices—fast and maneuverable, with varying missile packages. The 325A is currently less effective in combat, while the 350R shows promise for dogfighting. Personally, I’d lean toward the Avenger for its balance of handling and weaponry, despite some stability concerns during sharp turns.

The LN is a tough, intimidating vessel and it's affordable. A solid entry point. It was the first I used, but I became hooked and upgraded it to 325A mainly to scavenge the free OS6 lasers for my Hornet, haha. The 325A performed well for a while after 1.0. Looking back, I should have waited for RECs instead of jumping in.

It's logical to have premium vessels since they're quicker to reach an Aurora compared to a 325a. I only included the Delta because my son enjoys flying it, and I'd still have it on a bigger ship.

I've been using the FC7 Hornet on the PAX pass for free lately. It performs well in speed and handling. I'm considering committing to a game but need help choosing a ship. The 125$ price tag is too high. I've watched comparisons on YouTube, like the 300i versus the Aurora LN. The 300i looks more agile than the LN, but the LN offers stronger firepower. The Aurora seems better for exploration and mining, though I believe a fighter is more practical now. In Elite, I have a fighter and a carrier. I'd like a versatile ship in SC, but I don't see much advantage in having a carrier at the moment.

If you appreciate the Hornet for its speed and handling, you'll probably enjoy nearly every other ship as well—none are slower. All of them offer better maneuverability except the Cutlass.
