What prevents your computer from shutting down completely?
When I hit shut down, the screen turns off yet the PC keeps running because I can still see the lights from my case and the motherboard. The system doesn't fully power down when I try, and it also fails to restart properly. If I press restart, the screen goes black, but it doesn't reboot at all—it just stays on forever. This wasn't a problem initially, but it keeps happening randomly.
EDIT: The only method I have now to shut down my PC is by keeping the power button pressed.
What are the specifications of the computer? Have you checked if the chipset drivers have been updated?
Try a clean boot to check if it resolves the issue—follow the instructions carefully. Ensure no Microsoft services are disabled, as this will prevent Windows from loading properly. If the clean boot doesn’t help, it may indicate a non-Microsoft program running during startup. Repeatedly restart the stopped programs to pinpoint the culprit. Startup applications can interfere with shutdown processes, which is why this could be a factor. Also, verify you have the latest BIOS for your board; resetting it to defaults might resolve the problem caused by a communication failure between Windows and the BIOS.
I have fixed the problem by going back to one of my previous motherboards.
