What parts are needed for sim-racing?
Hello!
I’d appreciate your guidance.
ATX, AMD, AM5, PCIe5 are necessary.
SimRacing - future ATX 5090, VR 4k.
Currently, the 5090 isn’t available, but the MB should be ready soon.
Which AMD version (7/9 3D) and which board (650E, 670E, 870E) should I pick?
THX
This appears to be a broader question about building or upgrading. I recommend checking the template provided to clarify your requirements.
Looking for this item now with a budget under 500€. AMD 7gen seems like a good pick for gamers I've read about. The CPU is still open, but I'm unsure which one to pick (under 400€). RAM is 32GB, more isn't necessary for Assetto Corsa EVO. M.2 interface (PCI, NVMe or SATA) is still unclear. The goal is a good MB that can be upgraded to ATX5090 and run smoothly at 4k on VR. I currently own a Pico 3 Link VR with a 5.5-inch LCD display. Resolution is 3664 x 1920 at 773 PPI, supporting 72Hz, 90Hz, or 120Hz.
The motherboard does not significantly impact graphics card performance, especially on the latest generation boards using the main X16 port. However, it may influence CPU performance if the VRM design is poor or the BIOS settings are suboptimal for RAM timing.
That refers to the specifications like MB, CPU, RAM, SSD, only PCIe5 and that's it. What does VRM mean? Should I consider getting an ASUS TUF GAMING X670E-PLUS for a good price (used)?
AMD Ryzen 7 7600X3D
Alpenföhn Brocken 4 CPU cooler
ADATA XPG LANCER Black Edition DIMM Kit 32GB, DDR5-6000, CL30-40-40, on-die ECC
M.2 SSD 1TB
simple Monitor since I’ll use the Pico 3 VR
ATX housing, no need for RGB lights or LEDs
😉
ATX 1000W power supply
possibly the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER
It would be advisable to use a 2TB SSD in place of a 1TB one.
PCI-E gen5 isn't really important at the moment. A gen 4 SSD will still function well and is fast enough. Gen 5 on the 5090 is just a marketing trick. VRM handles voltage regulation for the motherboard. A poor solution can cause overheating, which might lower CPU speeds to prevent damage. I don't like Asus, but this board should work.
