I prefer not to go for overclocks above 4.9 or 5. I want something around 4.4ghz using a cooler Master Hyper Evo 212 and an MSI Z97PCM.
I don’t want to invest more in the motherboard.
My main focus is just gaming.

The extent of overclocking depends on the chip, and you might reach up to 4.4GHz or even 4.9GHz. However, some may cap at around 3.51GHz. Only real testing will tell for sure. - Wolf sends

Wolfshadw explains that overclocking limits depend on the chip type. You might reach up to 4.4GHz or even 4.9GHz, but it's unlikely you'll surpass 3.51GHz. The outcome remains uncertain until you test it yourself.

My 4690K on an MSI Z97 board with EVO 212 performed well at 4.4 without issues, and Prime95 remained stable. At 4.5 it became unstable, even at a voltage I was comfortable with, so I settled for 4.4.

In my view, the type of motherboard isn't important, especially if it supports overclocking.

Are you still running at 4.4ghz? If yes, what voltage setting were you using?
