Pentium also joined the mix. I tried Ubuntu but it was quite demanding, so I searched for something lighter. Kubuntu came up as a good option. I've been using it since then and really enjoy it. Recently, I considered Lubuntu, but I don’t have much time.

Why such a powerful processor is used in 2016? Here’s my Cinnamon, which runs smoothly and feels lighter than KDE or Gnome.

I believe Kubuntu is more substantial than Ubuntu, since KDE tends to be the heaviest option at first.

This wasn't what I expected. I wasn't able to use anything with Ubuntu.

I'm known for being a vintage machine, probably around ten years old.

No way to know until you try them! I would recommend Ubuntu with MATE or Cinnamon. You could load up a bunch of different distros in a vm as well (virtualbox is good). You'll find one you like.
