What new games are on the horizon?
So, I'm wondering if there are any upcoming MMOs that fans are tracking. We've recently noticed ESO and Wildstar making waves as major releases, but I'm not sure about any new big titles beyond those two. Besides Everquest Next, or maybe games like Day Z or Star Citizen's MMOs? I'm not a big fan of subscription costs. I can handle the expense, but I really don't like waiting months only to pay $15 just to decide if it's worth playing again. I tend to prefer games with a steady payment system, like Guild Wars 2. While I've still enjoyed the WvW/PvP mode, raiding isn't exactly my thing. I did a bit of it in WoW, and with a good guild, it can be pretty fun. I'm curious if there are any buy-to-play MMOs that include raiding features that look interesting. Any thoughts on what's on the horizon? (just kidding, I hope!)
Despite differing opinions, I still view DayZ as an MMO. The single-player mode remains flawed and incomplete, but if developers continue refining it—similar to the Arma 2 mod DayZ and eventually improving—it could become one of the most impressive MMO experiences in its genre.
I invested in Archeage alpha a while back after a friend suggested it and I like it. The beta weekends are now underway (this weekend is the first). The PvP is solid, and there are several other interesting features, though overall I’d hold off until the full release and F2P version.
I considered ArcheAge to be extremely disappointing. It offers nothing substantial, and the positive feedback it receives mostly stems from its unconventional mechanics and the engine it employs.
It could work better depending on your background, my team does well and everyone is easy to get along with. If you're alone or not very active, it might feel dull. Still, that's part of the fun—I enjoy playing meme games in Ultima Online on a free server.
Blade & Soul has been available globally since its Korea-only launch in 2012, with China and Japan releasing it later that year and in 2014. This means the game feels somewhat dated now, though its combat mechanics resemble those of TERA and Guild War 2, offering more than just skill spam. It seems to feature a combo system, even if I’m not entirely sure how it works.
For fans of Warhammer 40k, Eternal Crusade is a must-play. Originally intended as the Warhammer 40k MMO, it faced challenges after THQ's bankruptcy. A new group revived the project, and I'm really looking forward to it. The only drawback is its partnership with Nvidia, which might affect AMD users negatively.
