Hello,
I own an Intel i7-14700 processor and am considering a motherboard. I found an Asus TUF Gaming z790 Plus with WiFi on Amazon, which fits my budget and looks decent. It supports 12th and 13th Gen processors, and some users say it can work with 14th Gen after a BIOS update. I’m unsure if this is the best choice.

I also discovered an MSI MAG Z790 Tomahawk MAX WiFi, but I haven’t used MSI boards before—only Asus. Could you recommend a suitable motherboard and a CPU cooler for me? I prefer not to overclock.

Hey there,
For your CPU, it's not an 'x' version, so a B660 or B760 motherboard works best. The older B660 might require a BIOS update to run the new CPU. The B760 should come with support ready to go.
A suitable option would be:
PCPartPicker Part List
Motherboard:
MSI B760 GAMING PLUS WIFI ATX LGA1700 Motherboard
($160.00 @ Amazon)
Total:
$160.00
Shipping, taxes, and any available discounts are included

No need for a Z790.

The ASUS should function with BIOS 1205 or higher.

The I7 14700 includes an RM1 cooler, which I plan to use first.
The cooler performs well, handling high RPMs while remaining very quiet.
A BIOS version of 1205 or newer is necessary for this model.
It was released on June 24, 2023, so unless you have older stock, it should be fine.
MSI is acceptable, but if you're comfortable with ASUS, they might be a better choice.
You may also consider a MATX B760 motherboard for a lower cost.

Chatgpt suggests considering the pros and cons of choosing B760 versus Z790 for CPU. It highlights advantages like improved VRMs, more USB/PCIe options, faster RAM speeds, and potential resale value. It also asks about the cost difference between Z790 Prime and Plus models and whether a Prime model is a better choice. Additionally, it inquires about the recommended cooling solution for high temperatures and asks if the BIOS version is listed on the motherboard packaging.

Your room temperature serves as the standard for cooler performance.
Use the AC or open a window when fully loaded if possible.
The case fans are responsible for removing heat from the system.
I’m not sure if some packages include the BIOS level.
If you purchase from a nearby store, they should provide fresh stock or at least offer a processor to update the BIOS.
It would be unexpected to find any motherboards that are two years old.
