What might be triggering your PC to restart during game loading?
Hi everyone, I've been facing a problem lately when trying to launch certain games—Counter Strike 2, Valorant, and Deadlock. My PC tends to freeze, display a black screen, and then restart without fully shutting down. Once I reach the main menu, I can play those games, but once they start, my system reboots again. This issue started about three days ago, and despite running stress tests, my hardware isn’t behaving as expected. I’ve tried Aida64 Extreme, Fur Mark, CPU-Z, and even tested the PSU with the connector, but none of these steps reproduced the problem. The PSU showed stable voltages.
My specs are:
CPU: Ryzen 9 5950x
GPU: Radeon RX 6800 XT
Motherboard: Gigabyte B550 Aorus Pro v2
RAM: 32 GB DDR4 GSkill Trident Z 3200 MHz
Power Supply: EVGA 1000W Gold Super Nova
Storage: Seagate FireCuda 520 2TB
Tested the psu with the connector and all voltages were stable.
Please elaborate on this.
Mobo: Gigabyte B550 Aorus pro v2
What BIOS version are you on for your motherboard?
PSU: EVGA 1000W gold super nova
How old is your PSU?
Usually an abrupt system reboot when taxed is caused from two things;
1| an overheating issue
or
2| a PSU that's incapable of delivering power when taxed.
How are you cooling the processor?
Cooling the CPU using a Noctua NH-D15
PSU is 5 years old
BIOS version F14
Elaboration: I applied the 24-pin PSU test to isolate my PSU and confirmed it boots properly. Then I checked voltages with a multimeter, and everything was within the expected ranges of 12v/5v/3.3v.
I also attempted to run monitoring software during crashes, but it didn’t capture readings quickly enough to identify issues. In the case of deadlocks, when I click to start a game it freezes instantly and then restarts to the Windows login screen. I’ve tried stressing with other games such as Arc Raiders and Escape from Tarkov, but they don’t reproduce the same failure.
