What methods exist to halt and void an already running print job?
I'm dealing with a Canon LBP2900 laser printer issue that seems to affect multiple printers, including the HP model I used previously. My operating system is Windows 7.
I sometimes forget details and accidentally start a print job without setting the right parameters. For instance, I might want to print just one page from a multi-page document but end up printing the whole thing.
In such cases, I pause the job halfway through or load only a single sheet, but the printer still warns me about running out of paper. The "Cancel job" option is grayed out and doesn't function. In the Devices and Printers section, the document disappears and can't be selected for cancellation. Pressing "Cancel all jobs" has no effect. Turning the printer on or off doesn't resolve the problem, and the out-of-paper light continues to flash even after the printer restarts. The Task Manager doesn't display any active print job. Ending the spool process also fails.
I've tried to resolve this before but can't be certain. I'm not sure what worked before, and I don't remember the steps clearly. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Shut down the printer and disconnect it from the power source. Allow it to rest for roughly half an hour, which should remove any stored data.
We operate with multiple Brother printers in a single group, which means it's unlikely to be useful to know that either pressing the red/stop button or clearing the printer queue resolves the issue. It's important to note that for this to function, the computer must have the Brother drivers and software (the portal) installed.
I can use these printers on the LAN (and occasionally via WAN through a phone app) from devices that don't have the full software suite, but the results in those scenarios are similar to what you mentioned.
